Dark Light
It was cold, dreary and dark. A thunder storm was approaching and the wind had picked up. Chance, my horse, and I were hurrying to finish checking fences and grazing use. I was had a mental struggle trying to decide whither to finish and not have to come back to this grazing allotment this year or escape the weather and not risk a lightning strike. Chance was wearing metal shoes so his vote was to go back to the safety of the trailer. . . . I decided we would stay and finish the day’s project. My thoughts were as dark as the stormy sky. I was impatient with the deeds of the people around me. I felt evil eyes in the rocks watching me, waiting and hoping I would lash out or hurt someone. Then I noticed a small patch of light in the clouds and felt as if Jesus was telling me HE was there guarding me, protecting me and the others around me. I wondered why I had to continually fight these battles with impatience, anger and resentment. The Lord had paid for these things and I was not supposed to be trapped by them.
Then I remembered Ephesians 6:12:
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in Heavenly realms.”
Even though I was aware of the dark holes in the ground and the sense of darkness around me I knew I had been set free.
Psalms 18:1 states:
“The Lord is my Light and my Salvation, whom shall I fear, the Lord is the Strength of my life, of whom Shall I be afraid?”
I sent my mind back to a spring day when I was walking in the Light. The sunlight was dappled in the aspen stand and wildflowers surrounded me. I remembered the sun on my back and the gentle warmth of the breeze.
In John 12: 46 Jesus said:
“I have come into the world as a LIGHT so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”
Thank you, Lord, for your care and concern for me. Thank you that I walk the paths of light even on stormy days. Please give me patience for others and realistic expectations for myself and others trapped in this present world. Thank you that there is a New World coming that is free of all the darkness of our thoughts and intentions.
AMEN
